"Nightcrawler" Review

"Nightcrawler"

Spoilers Ahead

This week I will be reviewing "Nightcrawler"
The story follows Lou Bloom(Jake Gyllenhaal) a petty thief in Los Angeles, he struggles to find work and resorts to stealing metal from constructions sites and selling it off. He tries to seek work at one of the construction sites but is rejected. On his way home Lou sees a car crash, he pulls over. Stringers (freelance photojournalists) arrive at the scene and begin recording and taking photos. Joe Lodder one of the stringers tells Lou that they sell their footage to local news stations. Spurred Lou steals and bike and uses it to acquire a  police radio scanner and a cam corder. Lou attempts to get crime scenes to record but fails.  Lou then records the aftermath of a fatal car jacking and sells it to a local news station. He meets the morning news director Nina Romina (Rene Russo). She tells Lou about their interest in footage like what recorded, violent and bloody footage. Lou hires an assistant, Rick a man desperate for work and money. Lou begins to tamper with accidents and crimes to make them more appealing for his footage even moving dead bodies.
Jake Gyllenhaal played Lou Bloom disturbingly well his character was a single minded, relentless perfectionist, his role was truly what made this movie for me, his acting was flawless. "Nightcrawler" is a dark and exciting thriller movie, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a dark movie.

"Sicario" Review

"Sicario"

Spoilers ahead

This week I will be reviewing "Sicario"
The story of "Sicario" follows FBI agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) as she is recruited by a suspicious government official, Matt Graver(Josh Brolin) to join a special task force led by the fierce and  shadowy Alejandro(Beneicio Del Torro) as they cross into mexico and back to pursue a dangerous Mexican drug lord (Julio Cesar Cedilo). As time goes by Kate begins to be distressed by the level of brutality and lack compassion her comrades show while across the border and gaining information. Her unswerving dedication to her morals puts her at odds with her ruthless comrades and herself, as she begins to believe their way is the only way to get the job done.
Sicario is an action crime, thriller movie, there is truly never a boring' moment in Sicario. The cinematography in "Sicario" is a amazing every one of the major scenes takes place in extremely detailed environments and extremely fluid, great looking action. The actors in this movie were truly amazing. Benecio Del Torro was amazing in his role his character was what truly made this movie for me, Alejandro was a dark, brooding, stoic unstoppable force. Emily Blunt's character was also stellar Kate Macer was a naive, moral and just immovable object.  Dennis Villenueve the Director of "Sicario" did an amazing job capturing the environment and making the movie seem real. Sicario was a great film I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a great thriller/action movie.
